Seeing a UFO... Or Were We Being Sighted?
Time: Sunset
Date: in the summer either July or August (not sure) of 1979
Place: Norway, Michigan
As the Sun was beginning to set on a warm summer night at the lake park, it happened. The sighting of an Unidentified Flying Object. Right up close and personal!
My friend Debbie and I were sitting at a picnic table on the hill at Lake Mary Park. I lived on Mary Lake about 3 blocks down from the public park and we had decided to take an evening walk there after dinner.
The park is situated on a hill with the lake, swimming, boating, and play area below. On top of the hill are a parking lot, a large pavilion with picnic areas, and some picnic tables all surrounded by various trees and a large field leading out to the road.
We were sitting on top of this hill looking out at the lake as the sun was starting to set and the stars were just beginning to appear.
Using the map below, click google earth and zoom in to see "Lake Mary Park" over the parking lot. We were sitting in the clearing to the north of the parking lot and just to the left of the large tree where it's shadow is shown here. At 8 pm or so there was no shadow just a nice clear view of the sky across the lake.
From here looking towards the north out across the lake at the distant stars, one "star" was moving among the others in a quick jumping motion. We thought it odd and joked about it being a UFO. Soon it disappeared.
Little did we know!!
As we sat admiring the last of the sunset on the water, the wind began to pick up and sweep in suddenly, blowing the trees along with it. We got up from the table and stood looking up at the trees blowing so vigorously and then... directly above us, as if out of nowhere..
a very large, dark grey or black object in the shape of a hexagon or circular (?) appeared!! It was VERY similar in appearance to the main photo at the top of this post.
It was 20 or 30 yards in diameter (would fit nicely inside one half of a football field) and at least 1 story high with several evenly spaced white lights facing down on us!
It moved quietly, steady, and very slowly about 20 or 30 feet overhead (two story house or so) showing us a friendly view of its underside
To get a perspective of the size and distance to the ground the picture below is also very similar though it was slightly larger as I just described. (click to view full size)
It moved from north to the south for what seemed an eternity. It was probably more like 10 or 20 seconds enough to go several yards and then quickly drew itself away as quickly as it appeared taking the wind with it.!
Shock and Awe
After the initial shock ... we tried evaluating and reasoning about what on earth we had just seen. And did you feel that wind? Maybe we didn't really see what we saw. But we both did see it!! And the wind in the trees was unmistakable and the whispering sound and the metal pie like shape and those lights!We looked to the north.. nothing. We looked at each other. Gulp.
And then to the South...oh look, over there in the Southern sky another jumping star!! there it is again!!!........

We both began to walk very quickly and calmly as possible back home. When we got out of the park area and onto the road we wasted no time breaking into a sprint.
My parents finally got us to calm down although my Mom was not as interested in hearing the account. My step Dad however is a fanatical SciFi watcher and wanted details!
I didn't know the Lord then as I do today and with a variety of Spiritual warfare and other experiences to draw from, I now wonder if it was planned and rather than a random sighting, it was an unexpected appointment.
